Artist Statement:
The predominant theme in my work thus far has been an exploration of the female form as it pertains to sensuality - and the connection of sensuality (or pleasure: "kama") to the more profound experiences of spirituality. As many practitioners of what is known as "tantra" - sensuality, pleasure and physical sex are a reflection of the state of bliss that comes to ardent meditation student or practitioner of the various types of "yoga". One must note that most valid practitioners of "tantra" discard the physical sex element commonly associated with this line of thought to be of the least importance.

One can certainly not negate the beauty of nature - and for the male human being the female is the easiest to appreciate due to the pleasure associated with sexuality. In essence, this exhibit is a transition for me, the artist - from a fascination with feminine beauty to a fascination with the beauty of nature as a whole.

My influences from a visual point-of-view are eclectic and come from all facets of visual arts arts and the practice of "hatha" yoga. My philosophical mindset has been heavily influenced by the Buddhist Dharma talks of Tara Brach (http://www.imcw.org/tara-brach) and the American (anonymous) meditation teacher know to the public as "Yogani" (http://www.aypsite.org/).

I am also an ardent devotee of Shirdi Sai Baba - and 100% of any sales from this exhibit will be donated to the Sai Baba Temple/Trust in Shirdi.

My current work-in-progress is a picture / coffee table book: Balaji and the Tirupati Experience for which I have approached Rupa Publishers in New Delhi, India. Whatever might be the final publishing outcome, I will be spending a significant part of this year (2009) exploring Tirupati/Tirumala in Andhra Pradesh and the mythology associated with the presiding Deity, Lord Venkateswara.
